In the morning, we pick you up at your hotel in Yangon and depart to Bago. The journey leads through a picturesque rural landscape of paddy fields and small villages. Firstly, we will visit Shwethalyaung Buddha image, which is one of the country’s most revered objects. This is one of the largest reclining Buddha images in Burma with 55m long and 16m high depicting the Buddha just before death and entering into Nirvana. Next we will visit Shwemawdaw Pagoda – the tallest pagoda in Burma and almost as famous as the Great Shwedagon. It is believed to be built 237 years after the Buddha’s Advent, that is, in the 4th century B.C. this is one of Burma’s most sacred sites, because it enshrines several relics of the Buddha. You will have lunch in a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, we go to the nearby local market where agricultural produce grown locally is on sale. After that, we transfer back to the capital. On the way, we stop to visit Htaukkyan War Cemetery situated between Bago and Yangon. It houses the graves of more than 27,000 allied soldiers. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission administers this beautifully landscaped cemetery. Finally we will drop you off at your hotel in Yangon. End trip.
