The DMZ (Demilitarised Zone) is the old border area that divided North and South Vietnam until the end of the Vietnam War in 1975. Some of the fiercest battles of the war occurred at places like Khe Sanh and Quang Tri. At least tens of thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands of North Vietnamese, South Vietnamese and US troops as well as civilians died in battles in this area. By joining this tour, you have an opportunity to understand about Vietnam War - one of the defining events of the second half of the twentieth century.
The Vietnamese Demilitarized Zone was established as a dividing line between North and South Vietnam as a result of the First Indochina War. During the Second Indochina War (popularly known as the Vietnam War), it became important as the battleground demarcation separating North Vietnamese territory from South Vietnamese territory.
The tour guide will pick-up you at your hotel located centrally in Hue and take you for a short drive to Dong ha Town - an important transport hub that sits at the intersection of Hwys 1 and 9. Dong Ha makes a useful base for exploring the DMZ and is the gateway town to the Lao Bao border crossing.
Then continue to drive on national route No 9 to visit Dakrong Bridge, Rock pile, Khe Sanh combat base, Ethnic minority villages, the Ho Chi Minh trails. The bridge was the main access point to the trails during the war, and was bombed and rebuilt repeatedly throughout the conflict. The current bridge was built in 1974.
Have lunch and you will order lunch by yourself. In early noon, we will follow highway No 1 visit Hien Luong bridge, Ben Hai River, the 17th parallel. Where was chosen to divide Vietnam become 2 lands like 2 countries from 1954 – 1975. The bridge is a symbol showing the loss, separation and hurt.
And then you will stop at Doc Mieu, Vinh Moc Tunnels. The Vinh Moc tunnels are tunnels used by North Vietnam army to fight against the Americans during the Vietnam war and used by the civilian population to protect themselves from the American bombing.
