Description

High water season (August to January):

Day 01 Mountain bike and trek your way to your Khmu village homestay (L, D)

We meet you at your hotel in Luang Prabang and move to take bikes. Our first stop is at Wat Pa Phon Phao, as known as golden stupa temple. We then visit Ban Phanom – a well-known cotton and silk hand-weaving village. Next we visit the grave of Henri Mouhot – the French explorer who popularized Angko Wat of Cambodia. After that, we ride to the bank of Nam Khan River. We will stop for a break to take in the grandeur of a view to jungle and a towering rock face. You will have lunch here before crossing the river by boat and hiking to a traversing rice paddy fields and terraced slope toward a peaceful village.

In the afternoon, we arrive at beautiful Ban Houay Nok – a Khmu village nested into the foothill of a steep, jungle-covered mountain. This night you will stay here in local homestay.

Day 02 Full day big jungle trek to Hmong and Khmu villages and homestay (B, L, D)

After breakfast, we start trekking on one of the most spectacular trails in this area. We trek through karst and limestone mountains as local people do. We will visit Hmong village on a lake along our way. Coming here, you can learn more about the various traditional aspects of the minority cultures of Hmong and Khmu tribes. In the late afternoon, we arrive at the village where you will stay overnight. Enjoy the time here.

Day 03 Trek, Waterfall, Elephants, and Kayaking (L, D)

After breakfast, we descent the mountain to reach Tad Sae Waterfall. Coming here you can relax and go swimming in the cool water. You will experience elephant ride through the jungle and even bather them in the waterfall. Lunch will be served at the fall.

In the afternoon, you take a small boat downriver to kayak station. Our manager welcome you and provide you with safety check and kayaking skills. After that, you start kayaking along Nam Khan River. You will see from your kayak the countryside with banana, teak trees, rice paddies and terrace pineapple plantations. After that, we transfer back to your hotel in Luang Prabang. End trip

Low water season (February to July):

During the low water season, Tad Sae Waterfall is dry and the water level in Nam Khan River is low as well. Therefore, there are some changes in the itinerary as follow:

Day 1

We will enjoy an extended 20 Km bike ride that takes us up and down some dirt hills and through rice paddies and villages with a small river crossing by bike.

Day 2

The second day is the same as above.

Day 3

If the Tad Sae is too dry we’ll skip the visit. Instead of it, we take a similar trail out of the mountains to the Nam Khan River. You’ll ride elephants at the adjacent and impressive Elephant Village camp then join us again to start kayaking 11 Km with some small rapids before picking up and returning to Luang Prabang.
