At 7.00 am, we pick you up at your hotel in Mandalay and drive to Amarapura, which is 15km far from Mandalay. Our first destination is Maha Gandayon – a famous Buddhist monastery where more than a thousand monks live and study. We continue to 200-year-old U Bein Teak Bridge built in 1782 at the time when Amarapura was Royal Capital. We also visit a traditional hand-woven silk workshop before stopping for lunch in a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, you will experience the sights and sounds of Mandalay by visit numerous Buddhism monasteries and pagodas. Start with Shwe Inn pin Monastery and Shwenandaw (Golden Palace) Monastery – a superb example of traditional wooden building. Then we visit Kuthodaw Pagoda, which is also called “the world’s largest book”. It comprises of a gilded pagoda, hundreds of shrines housing inscribed marble slabs and several pavilions. We continue with Mahamuni Pagoda – one of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Burma. The temple houses the Mahamuni Budda image, the most highly revered Buddha image in the country. Since Mandalau is also a major crafts center, you can visit a Kalaga tapestries craftsmen’s shop before proceeding to Mandalay Hill for sunset. After that, we take you back to your hotel. End trip
