What To Expect

This tour will allow you to explore Battambang’s beautiful hinterland and the local way of life. French architectural styles were introduced to Cambodia during the period of colonial rule, and certain buildings have since become a symbol of colonialism throughout Indochina. Battambang is a unique in the way that different cultural influences have fused and bounced off one another to create rare pieces of art and architecture.

Description

Day 1

Battambang
Once you arrive in Battambang, your guide will pick you up from the bus station, and take you to the hotel to check in and give a small introductory talk. After this you’ll have some free time to explore the city or just relax until your departure the next morning.

Day  2

Early in the morning, our tuk-tuk driver will pick you up from the hotel and take you to the office where we can hop on the bikes.

Morning countryside bicycle tour: Take a bike ride through the villages in the countryside surrounding Battambang and see a traditional, agricultural lifestyle in motion. There will be a few stops where you can chat to the friendly locals, and buy their produce if you wish to help the rural economy.

Sunset and Bat Caves: Here we’ll split the group into one of two options: those with better stamina can continue on bicycle, while the rest can relax and be taken by tuk-tuk up to the nearby bat caves. Your tour guide will show you around various points of interest as you ascend the mountain, including the killing caves, preserved as a memorial to those who died under the Khmer Rouge regime. When you reach the peak, your guide will share legends about the local area, and you’re likely to see some of the local wildlife up close.

Day 3

After taking breakfast, you’ll be picked up by tuk-tuk and taken to the first stop.

Bamboo Train: Before climbing aboard the train, your guide will take you to see a nearby 100-year-old house. After this brief stop, you’ll have a truly unique experience on the bamboo train, which isn’t used in any country other than Cambodia. This improvised transport featured heavily in the period of reconstruction after the fall of the Khmer Rouge regime in transporting supplies and livestock between villages.

Experience the city, circus and farewell dinner: When we arrive back in the city, you can s
pend some time to visit Battambang’s central market, where you can browse some unique and interesting souvenirs. After this, you’ll be taken to see the various French colonial buildings and listen to your tour guide run through a few significant points in the city’s history, and interesting details about the buildings’ designs. After this phase of the tour you’ll have some time to rest at your hotel before a tuk-tuk picks you up to take you to a dazzling circus performance later in the evening. Afterwards, we’ll have a final dinner together, and your guide will be more than happy to recommend some local bars in the area.
