What To Expect

Inle Lake is a large freshwater lake surrounded by hills in the Shan state of central Burma. A boat trip on the lake is an amazing experience you may not want to miss. Cruise along this big lake, we will visit famous monasteries and pagodas as well as villages nearby. The beautiful scenic view from the boat will impress you as you feel like there is another Venice in Asia. Don

At 7.00 am, we pick you up at your hotel in the surrounding area and drive to 5-day markets (on market day only). By visiting 5-day-markets, you have the chance to get insight into the life style of the ethnic Pa-O, Danu and Intha inhabitants who came to these markets to sell their goods. After that, we enjoy full day boat trip on Inle Lake – a photographer’s dream. Its calm waters are dotted with floating vegetation and fishing canoes, to which scenic high hills provide the perfect backdrop. You can see the lake’s unique “leg rowers” – the Intha people row standing up with one leg wrapped around an oar. The boat trip passes endless floating gardens where fruit and vegetables are grown. Continue cruising, we reach Nga Phe Kyaung Monastery – the biggest and oldest wooden monastery in the Inle region. It is very famous for its cats trained by the monks to jump through small hoops like in a circus. Coming here you may have the chance to watch the cats’ jumping performance that is now held several times a day. Later, we visit Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, the holiest religious site in southern Shan State. It houses five ancient images of the Buddha that are completely covered in golf leaf. We then go to Inn Paw Khone Village to see Silk & Lotus weaving workshop, Blacksmith workshop and Cheroot (Burmese Cigar) workshop. After that, you have lunch in a local restaurant and take a short rest.

In the afternoon, you enjoy another boat tour to the western shore of Inle Lake, where you will find the beginning of a stair path leading to the well-hidden Indein Pagoda Complex. It is best known for its many ancient pagodas in many shapes and sizes in various states of preservation. While some have been restored, others are in their original crumbling state. The boat continue taking you through a long channel where you can see the farmers cultivate their produce. Finally, we return back to your hotel by boat. End trip.
