At 7:00 am, we pick you up at your hotel in Mandalay and depart to Monywa, which is about 150km far from Mandalay. When we arrive, we firstly visit the caves of Hpo Win Daung -?a sandstone cave system in the Hpo Win Hills. There are full of Buddhist statues and murals in the caves. Most exhibit the Inwa style but some may date from the 14th century. We then visit Shwe Ba Taung, which features unique pavilions cut from the surrounding sandstone and filled with Buddha images. After that, you have lunch in a local restaurant and take a short rest.
In the afternoon, we visit Moenyin Thanboddhay Pagoda, which is about 20km from Monywa. This is one of the most intricately decorated temples in the country with an extensive use of vibrant colors housing over 500,000 Buddha images. The buildings in the compound have interesting jataka relieves and there is a huge Reclining Buddha (Shwe Thar Lyaung Pagoda) nearby. Continue by visiting Aungset Kya Pagoda and Bodhitahtaung Pagoda. Here you can see 1000 Bo trees with sitting Buddha images. Then we go to Laykyun Sekkya Yattawmu Pagoda, which is famous as the world’s tallest standing Buddha image. From the top of the image, you can get great views of the surrounding countryside with the mountains in the background. Afterward, we transfer back to your hotel in Mandalay. End trip.
