High water season (August to January):
Day 01 Mountain biking, Trek, Elephants, Boat, Waterfall, and Homestay (L/D)
In the morning, we meet you at your hotel and move to take bikes for our tour. Heading out of town, our first stop is “Golden Stupa” temple – Wat Phon Phao – with a bird-eye view of the city and gorgeous grounds. We then visit Ban Phanom – a village famous with silk hand-weaving. You also get to visit the tomb of Henri Mouhot – the French explorer who popularized Angkor Wat of Cambodia. We continue our trip and arrive at Nam Khan River valley with stunning mountains, waterfalls, elephants, and a river flowing through it. After a short break at boat station, you take a boat up to Tad Sae waterfall. Here you can enjoy the clear water and even go swimming in it. You also have the chance to experience an unforgettable interactive experience with Asian elephants as your ride through the surrounding jungle.
You will have lunch at the fall before trekking into the Fair Trek Project area, where communities directly profit from your visit. Coming here, you will meet your homestay family and have the dinner prepared by your guide. After that, you can go exploring the village with your guide and enjoy drink with local people. This night you will stay in the village.
Day 02 Trekking, Boat, and Kayaking the Nam Khan River (B, L)
In the morning, you have breakfast at your homestay. Saying farewells with people here, we set off hiking out of the mountains to the riverbank and Xieng Lom Village. Firstly, our manager will provide you with kayaking skills. After safety and equipment check, you start kayaking down Nam Khan River, passing jungle, elephant camps, villages and agricultural land. It takes about 3 – 4 hours to kayak on the river, and then we will transfer return to Luang Prabang. End trip at your hotel in Luang Prabang/
Low water season (February to July):
During this period, Tad Sae Waterfall is dry and the water level in Nam Khan River is low, so we’ll ride elephants at the Elephant Village then hike directly to the homestay village on day 1. Elephant rides will take a different route through river and village. Overnight stay in village and jungle camp means very basic standards.
On day 2, as water flow is slower, we enjoy a shorter kayaking distance of 11 Km to Geang Noun in about 2.5 hours depending on conditions. You will stop to visit Henri Mouhot’s tomb and have the chance to take some nice photos on the sand beaches exposing on Nam Khan River because of low water level. After that, we transfer back to Luang Prabang. End trip.
