On 22/02, at Tra Que Vegetable Village, Cam Ha, Hoi An, there was a spring festival to wish for good crops throughout the year. This activity attracted a large number of locals and tourists.
It would be a pity if you come to Hoi An without paying a visit to Tra Que Vegetable Village. This village is over 500 years old now. Although Tra Que Vegetable Village is just a small village, it provides veggies for the whole Hoi An and nearby areas. In addition, being famous for growing fresh vegetables with delicious taste, Tra Que is a very attractive eco-tour destination.
This festival happens on the 7th day of the first lunar month every year. This is a chance for villagers to express their gratitude to those who discovered and established this old village. Besides, villagers also consider this as a special occasion to wish for a beautiful weather and bumper crops.
Mr. Nguyen Cam Xa, Party Secretary of Cam Ha Commune, said: “About 400 years ago, villagers started to produce vegetables and festivals were formed. Initially, the ceremony was held at each family, then, after the city has policies to restore the traditional Tra Que Vegetable Village, together with praying at each family, ceremony takes place with the participation of the whole community.
At the beginning of the ceremony, the elders sent out representatives to pray and bring offerings to ancestors. On the altar are products from Tra Que local farms, in which there are essentially a cock holding a flower in his mouth and pink sticky rice beautifully decorated with flowers. Next is the main festival with contests like gardening and cooking contest – the most expected part.
Mr. Mai Kim Phuong, Chairman of Cam Ha Commune, said: “Tra Que Vegetables Village is getting more and more well-known as a green and appealing community tourist attraction. Every year, tourism revenue brings more than 550 million VND to Tra Que Vegetable Village. Vegetable produce is popular too, exported to even other provinces, annual revenue is over 20 billion VND. Regarding ticket sales from tourism, we’ll use to invest in facilities and seeds for villagers.”
